Zero Waste is a personal project I started to promote people to use their recycling and composting resources more often. It is meant to easily inform users about how to get rid of their waste in the most environmentally friendly way by providing a platform to search for products quickly and get simple step by step directions on how to dispose of them.
Project
After doing a lot of research into current issues in the environment due to excess waste, I was shocked to learn that the situation was worse than I thought, with results like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a mess of trash and plastic that moves around the north Pacific Ocean that is about the size of the state of Texas… yes you read that correctly. Through in-person interviews and online surveys I learned that most people care about the effect their waste has on the environment but they don’t have the resources to know exactly how to dispose of their items. Based on this information I decided that people needed a way to quickly search for items so that they can more appropriately dispose of their waste without spending a bunch of time doing their own research. I then went through userflows, quick prototyping, user testing, and high-fidelity wireframes to test out some of the core features in the app. The project is now in the design and testing phase to determine the best minimum viable product.
